About Us

Here at a Dog's Tale we love what we do and it shows. We are a fully insured and fully qualified dog training and behaviour company dedicated to both you and your dog.
We will guide both human and dog through the amazing world of dog training and behaviour, helping you understand your dog better and develop your skills at the same time.

We believe that every dog has a tale to tell and complete, as their pet parents it is our job to help them along the way. Dog training should be fun and our aim is to make it enjoyable for all, both human and dog.

As lovers of rescue dogs and from our work in dog rescue we have experience with all breeds, big and small. We are also experienced in dealing with a range of different behaviours and issues.
One of the main reasons A Dog's Tale was created was to help support dogs to live in our human world and help owners to be the guiding hand their dog may need from time to time. We hope that if we can help people develop their skills and knowledge as well as training well-adjusted dogs we can reduce the amount of dogs that end up in rescue.

How Do We Work?
We strongly believe that dogs are a part of the family and the bonds between human and dogs can be amazing. Dog training is a partnership between our dogs and us, therefore we only ever use force free and reward based training. We train with compassion, kindness and of course some tasty treats! Not only does this mean you create a great relationship with your dog but it is also backed by scientific evidence. We want training to be something you both look forward to and enjoy.

We dedicate our utmost energy to every Dog training adventure we take on. Every tale is different - How will yours unfold?

Sarah

BSC(Hons), VSA-CDT

Owner of A Dog's Tale and Qualified Dog Trainer and Behaviourist.
I have loved dogs for as long as I can remember. My parents worked full time and did not have the time for a dog, along with 3 children! So whilst growing up I had other pets such as guinea pigs, gerbils, fish and a cat. After years of wanting a dog I grasped the opportunity as soon as possible to become involved with dogs. As a teenager I volunteered at a local independent animal rescue. I spent hours with the dogs walking and handling them. It was here that my love of rescue began as I saw the difference a bit of love and kindness can do to these animals, giving them a second chance. When University came around I knew there was only one route I wanted to take. After 3 years I graduated with a BSC (Hons) in animal behaviour.
After University was lucky enough to get a job in the intake and assessing department of one of the UK's largest dog rescue and rehoming organisations. Here my interest in dog behaviour grew as well as my knowledge and skills. Working with rescue dogs is a  challenge but so rewarding and it has given me experience with different behaviours and breeds. I try to help as many dogs as I can, including taking some that require a little more time and trust home with me on foster. Django was my 10th foster dog and I couldn't bring myself to say goodbye to him, so he got to stay.  I stayed working in rescue for almost 9 years when sadly I had to leave as we moved to Hampshire. I still try and keep involved with rescues.
In 2017 I enrolled on to the Victoria Stilwell Academy with the aim to further my skills and knowledge and set up a business. After 6 months I graduated with distinction.
I am keen to keep up to date with the most recent research and training as I believe dog training is always evolving and changing, I regularly attend seminars and events and I am currently studying an advance diploma in Canine Behaviour Management.
I am also currently working as a trainer with Canine Assisted Learning who place dogs in schools.
In 2018 I set up A Dog's Tale Dog Training and love doing what I do!
